La Société du Moulin is a community organization in Clarence-Rockland whose members donate their time, energy and expertise to local projects. In May 2007 La Société du Moulin launched a campaign to raise $200,000 for the purchase of specialized medical equipment for the new clinic so that more services could be provided locally instead of forcing residents to drive to Ottawa or Hawkesbury. Any equipment that is purchased belongs to the community through La Société du Moulin, NOT the physicians.
To date its efforts have been so successful that it has already purchased two ambulatory blood pressure monitors. These monitors are worn by patients for 24 hours and measure blood pressure at regular intervals during that time (e.g. every 15 or 30 minutes) to get a complete picture of a patient's blood pressure over time.
Community organizations like La Société du Moulin are critical to improving the health of Canadians. Not only will the equipment they purchase improve the quality of healthcare delivery in Clarence-Rockland, their efforts will raise people's awareness of health as an issue and lead to a healthier community over time.
