The CRFHT offers you free information sessions in English or French on a variety of topics.

To register for one of our information sessions, you must complete the following questionnaire and drop it off at the clinic: Interdisciplinary questionnaire

Exercice

A practical education session on physical activity and exercise: health benefits, the environment that encourages an active lifestyle, recommendations on physical activity and exercise, and various strategies for maintaining an active lifestyle. Stretching and strengthening exercises will be explained and practiced in a group.

  • The course is given by kinesiologists.

  • Length: 2 hours

  • Referral: Self-referral accepted.

  • Please bring flat shoes and clothes that are comfortable to move in.

 

Motivation and energy

The purpose of this information session is to help participants understand and recognize a drop in motivation, energy or mood. The information presented will help you identify possible causes, and the thoughts and behaviours that may make them continue or deteriorate. Strategies for better managing drops in motivation, energy and mood will be discussed.

  • Length: One 90-minute session.

  • Referral: Self-referral accepted.

 

Eating well with the Mediterranean diet

This information section reviews the guidelines for the Mediterranean diet.

It will also cover recommendations on managing obesity, hypertension (high blood pressure) and dyslipidemia (high cholesterol).

  • This course is given by a professional dietitian.

  • Length: 2 hours.

Reading nutrition labels

This information session will give you the knowledge you need to make informed choices when you do your grocery shopping.

You will learn the principles of food labeling, including how to correctly interpret the nutrition facts table and the list of ingredients.

The science of weight

This information session provides an opportunity for an open discussion on the subject of weight loss and maintaining a healthy weight.

Nutritional recommendations will be shared and techniques for behaviour modification and healthy meal planning will be discussed.

Participants will be encouraged to interact during the session.

Eating well with Irritable Bowel Syndrom (IBS)

This information session will discuss ways to promote digestive health and how to manage various gastrointestinal issues including those related to Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS). Topics included: how to use food to help manage symptoms, links between our mental health and digestive health, how to choose a probiotic and a brief introduction to the low FODMAP diet.

Sleep management

Information sessions to help you increase your knowledge and feeling of control over your sleep.

The information presented may help dispel the most common myths and misconceptions, allow you to recognize behaviours that have a negative impact on your sleep, and offer alternative strategies.

  • Length: Two 90-minute sessions.

Stress management

The purpose of these information sessions is to increase your knowledge about stress.

The information presented will help you identify the signs of stress, thoughts that increase stress, and emotions and behaviours associated with stress.

You will also have the opportunity to learn practical tools for better managing stress and increasing your confidence in your ability to manage stress.

  • Length: Two 90-minute sessions.

Managing anxiety in children

The purpose of these information sessions for parents is to better understand anxiety in their child by identifying its causes, signs of anxiety, and maintenance factors.

The information presented will provide you with practical tools and strategies that will increase your confidence in your ability to help your child manage anxiety.

  • Length: Two 2-hour sessions

Managing chronic pain

An information session aimed at increasing knowledge about chronic pain and the best possible treatment options.

This information session is divided into 2 parts. The first part is a discussion about life habits and exercises with a kinesiologist.

In the second part, a psychologist talks about mental health and the impact of chronic pain on day-to-day living.

  • Length: Two 2-hour sessions

  • Referral: Self-referral accepted.

 

Osteoarthritis and fibromyalgia

Free educational workshops on osteoarthritis and fibromyalgia are offered once a month, in English or French, for people diagnosed with either of these conditions. Topics covered at the workshop include:

  • How to manage your pain

  • How to exercise safely

  • How to reduce stress on your joints

  • Healthy eating and arthritis

  • Length: 90 minutes.
